The 17th season of the IPL begins on March 22nd, 2024. With the IPL 2024 season starting in less than a month, all clubs will be hoping to have a completely healthy roster.
With the quantity of cricket played today, there has been a surge in injuries, and many players are trying to be totally healthy for the IPL 2024.
On that point, here is a look at three teams with injury worries ahead of the IPL 2024.
1. Chennai Super Kings (“CSK”)
The reigning champions are suffering with injury issues ahead of IPL 2024.
Devon Conway, Rachin Ravindra, and Daryl Mitchell of New Zealand are all out with injuries. Devon Conway hurt his thumb during the second T20I against Australia and did not bat in that game. He also missed the third Twenty20 International against Australia.
Rachin Ravindra missed the second and third T20Is against Australia on February 23rd and 25th, 2024, due to a knee injury.
Daryl Mitchell was forced to miss several matches recently due to a foot injury. The second Test against South Africa and the entire T20I series versus Australia were impacted. His availability remains uncertain for the upcoming Test series starting February 29, 2024 against Australia. Thereafter, his status for IPL 2024 is also unclear at this time.
Shivam Dube, who had a spectacular IPL 2023 and was Mumbai’s in-form batting in the Ranji Trophy this year, experienced a side strain and will miss the remainder of the Ranji Trophy 2024 season.
Bangladesh bowler Mustafizur Rahman sustained a head injury during a practice session in Chattogram last week, requiring five stitches.
Whether the players previously mentioned regain fitness in time for the IPL starting in under 30 days remains uncertain.
2. Mumbai Indians (“MI”)
The nucleus of the MI club appears to be struggling with injuries ahead of the IPL 2024. To begin, the newly selected captain has not played since the World Cup match against Bangladesh in 2023.
Pandya was injured, forcing him to miss the World Cup’s remainder and subsequent matches. He has worked rigorously on fitness. It remains to be seen if Pandya will be completely match-fit for the IPL.
Surya Kumar Yadav (SKY) has been out of action since mid-December 2023 and had surgery for a sports hernia in Germany on January 17, 2024. He is undergoing therapy, and his participation in the 2017 IPL season is uncertain.
Ishan Kishan has also been gone in action for the previous few months. Although he is not injured, he has taken a vacation from the game and has only lately resumed training.
3. Gujarat Titans (“GT”)
The purple cap bearer from IPL 2023 has been ruled out of IPL 2024. Shami, who has been absent of competitive cricket since his exploits in the 2023 World Cup, will miss the 2019 IPL season with an ankle ailment. Shami’s absence will be a major setback for the GT franchise, who will struggle to find a substitute for the pacer.
Rashid Khan has been dealing with a back issue for the past several months. He did not participate in the PSL and was also unable to attend Afghanistan’s recent trip of Sri Lanka. Khan is still recovering from back surgery and is racing against the clock to be ready for the IPL 2024 season.
If Khan does not participate in the IPL 2024, GT would suffer a double blow because they will be without the services of pace spearhead Shami.
