The Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) kept their amazing batting going versus DC. They won by a big 67 runs in Match 35 of IPL 2024. It was their fourth win straight. This made them stay second in the IPL 2024 points table.
The SRH batsmen scored a stunning 266 runs in 20 overs. Openers Abhishek Sharma and Travis Head ripped away the hosts, scoring 131 runs off 38 balls. At one point, they appeared to be on track for a 300-plus total, but the DC spinners slowed things down.
While the DC chase began well with a quick-fire 65 from teenager Jake Fraser-McGurk, the SRH bowlers kept their composure in the last overs. T Natarajan had a brilliant session of 4/19, including a three-wicket maiden in the nineteenth over. As a result, Delhi were confined to 199 runs, while SRH scored another big victory.
The thrilling, high-scoring match witnessed many records being shattered. Behold, a compilation of three such astounding feats:
3. Highest strike rate in an IPL innings (min 40 runs)
Abhishek Sharma has been a revelation for the Sunrisers in the IPL 2024 so far. It’s incredible that the child can compete with someone like Travis Head. Amazingly, both Abhishek and Head have had a perfect strike rate of 216 thus far this season.
While Head scored the joint-fastest (16 balls) half-century in IPL 2024, Abhishek almost missed out on making history. He was removed after a furious 12-ball 46, although he had a perfect opportunity to equal Yashasvi Jaiswal’s IPL record for quickest half-century off 13 balls.
Having said that, Abhishek currently owns the record for the best strike rate in an IPL innings by a hitter scoring at least 40 runs.
On Saturday, the 23-year-old hit for 383.33. Abhishek has now overtaken his skipper Pat Cummins’ record of 373.33 strike rate against the Mumbai Indians in 2022, when he scored 56* (off 15 balls).
2. Fastest fifty for DC in IPL history
On a night when the Delhi Capitals faltered, Jake Fraser-McGurk stood out as the one bright point. While famous stars such as David Warner and Rishabh Pant failed to deliver, McGurk grabbed the show with an incredible knock.
He scored his fifty in 15 balls, breaking the previous Delhi Capitals record for the quickest IPL fifty. He beat Chris Morris’ record of fifty in 17 balls against the now-defunct Gujarat Lions in 2016.
1. Highest team runs after powerplay in T20 history
SRH’s openers, Abhishek Sharma and Travis Head, were on fire against the Capitals. The left-handed combo went bananas, putting up a record-breaking 131-run combination in 38 balls.
Their aggressive batting performance left the DC bowlers with no solutions. This remarkable stand rewrote the record for the most runs scored by a side after powerplay overs in a T20 competition.
Head and Abhishek combined to score 125 runs in the opening six overs. The previous T20 cricket record was 106/0 set by Nottinghamshire versus Durham in 2017.
The previous greatest powerplay score in IPL history was recorded by the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in 2017 when they scored 105/0 against the RCB.
