In an uneveÂn match, Delhi Capitals swiftly overcame Gujarat Titans, seÂcuring a comfortable six-wicket victory on April 17. The lopsideÂd affair unfolded during IPL 2024’s Match 32.
At Ahmedabad’s Narendra Modi Stadium, DeÂlhi captain Rishabh Pant won the toss, strategically opting to field first. This deÂcision proved pivotal, as Delhi’s bowling attack releÂntlessly dismantled Gujarat’s batting lineup.
The Gujarat Titans were swept out for 89 runs in 17.3 overs. Shubman Gill and Wriddhiman Saha fell easily, while the remainder of the batting order struggled to form big partnerships.
The DC bowlers were disciplined and shared the rewards, with everyone of them taking at least one wicket save Kuldeep Yadav. Mukesh Kumar was extremely effective, taking three wickets for 14 runs.
DC swiftly locked down their run chase, with Jake Fraser-McGurk demonstrating blitz early on with his 10-ball 20. Pant then stayed undefeated at 16, leading his team home with 67 balls to spare.
Now that the GT vs. DC match is finished, let’s look at three records that were broken during the just ended IPL game.
1. Sai Sudharsan Sets Record for Most Runs in First 20 IPL Innings among Indians
After representing Team India on the international level, Sai Sudharsan would have hoped for a stronger start to his IPL 2024 campaign. This season, the skilled southpaw has failed to reach 50 and has scored 238 runs at an average of 34.00.
However, his IPL 2022 campaign proved to be a success, as he now has an excellent individual record. Sudharsan is currently the Indian with the most runs after the first 20 IPL innings. The match versus DC was his 20th, and the Tamil Nadu-born player has scored 745 runs at a strike rate of 139.9.
Sudharsan has surpassed Ruturaj Gaikwad, who scored 737 runs in his first 20 IPL innings for Chennai Super Kings (CSK).
2. Lowest team total for GT
The hosts’ batting performance was terrible, to say the least. While there were no demons on the pitch, GT hitters made several terrible shot decisions.
As a consequence, they scored the lowest team total in IPL history, being dismissed for 89. This also marks the first time the 2022 IPL winners have gone all out in the first innings.
GT’s previous lowest total was 125/6, which occurred against DC last season at Ahemdabad. While it occurred in the second innings, their previous lowest first-inning total was 135/6 against the Lucknow Super Giants at Lucknow.
1. Biggest win by balls remaining for DC
Delhi’s outstanding effort transformed the contest into a landslide victory. After limiting GT to a poor total, they set out with the explicit intention of completing the game as soon as possible.
While they lost four wickets throughout their innings, Delhi finished the job in 8.5 overs. There were 67 balls remaining in the game. With this, DC has achieved their largest win (by balls remaining) in IPL history.
Their previous best was against Punjab Kings (PBKS) in Mumbai in 2022, when Delhi won by 57 balls.
