Rajasthan Royals (RR) extended their winning streak in IPL 2024 by defeating the Mumbai Indians (MI) in Match 14 at the Wankhede Stadium on Monday, April 1.
RR bowlers backed their captain’s decision to bowl first, limiting the hosts to a below-par score of 125/9.
Trent Boult created havoc early on, scoring 3/22. Yuzvendra Chahal then ended MI’s innings with a flawless 3/11 spell.
In response, Akash Madhwal’s 3/20 slowed RR’s run chase. However, a magnificent half-century by Riyan Parag led Rajasthan home. The teenager scored an undefeated 54 as the visitors won with 27 balls to spare.
With the game now in the books, here are three of the most notable records broken during the just finished MI vs. RR match.
1. Youngest to pick a wicket for MI in IPL
Despite a poor showing in his debut game, MI management supported Kwena Maphaka. The teenage South African wonder had a good outing on Monday, helping the home team get off to a strong start.
The southpaw seamer halted Yashasvi’s innings early on. This initial scalp made Maphaka Mumbai’s youngest IPL player ever.
Maphaka, aged 17 and 359, has surpassed Dewald Brevis on the list. Brevis took his lone IPL wicket for MI at the age of 18 years and 345 days.
2. Joint-most wickets in 1st over of IPL
Trent Boult stunned the Wankhede crowd by dismissing Rohit Sharma, Naman Dhir, and Dewald Brevis for golden ducks in the first innings.
In his opening over, he took two wickets, making him the IPL’s joint-most successful first-overs bowler.
Boult now has 25 wickets in an IPL game’s first over, matching Bhuvneshwar Kumar’s total. Surprisingly, the RR left-armer required just 486 balls to get there, while Bhuvneshwar bowled 696.
1. Joint-most ducks in IPL history
Rohit Sharma’s return to his home stadium did not begin well, as he edged one to the keeper in the first over of the match.
This was his 17th duck of the competition, giving him the joint-most ducks in IPL history. He has joined Dinesh Karthik on the undesired list.
Since joining MI in 2013, this was Rohit’s 15th duck, making him the player with the most ducks in MI history. Harbhajan Singh held the previous record, with 14 zeros to his name.
