The Sunrisers Hyderabad team dominated their home ground. They defeated Chennai Super Kings in match eighteen of IPL 2024. This match was played at Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium on Friday.
Chennai Super Kings batted first after Sunrisers Hyderabad won the toss. SRH bowlers restricted CSK to 165 runs in twenty overs. The bowling attack used slower balls frequently. They kept run-scoring under control on a sluggish pitch surface. Shivam Dube top-scored for CSK smashing 45 off 24 deliveries.
In response, SRH openers Travis Head and Abhishek Sharma got the squad off to a great start. Aiden Markram then in to bat at number three, bringing Hyderabad closer to the mark as the South African scored 50 off 36. Finally, Nitish Reddy (14* off 8) smashed the winning six in the last over to secure the victory for the hosts.
The just finished IPL 2024 event also marked the achievement of a few milestones. Here’s a collection of three such albums.
1. T Natarajan completes 50 wickets for SRH
Natarajan commenced SRH’s campaign in stellar fashion, claiming three scalps versus KKR at Eden Gardens. Alas, an injury setback then sidelined him for the subsequent couple of encounters.
However, the left-arm bowler made his second IPL 2024 appearance against CSK. While he didn’t bowl very well, he did dismiss Daryl Mitchell in four overs. Mitchell’s wicket was Natrajan’s 50th for the Sunrisers in IPL cricket.
He is currently only the fourth bowler to reach the milestone, behind Bhuvneshwar Kumar (147), Rashid Khan (93), and Siddharth Kaul (52).
2. Shivam Dube has now hit the most IPL sixes since 2022
Shivam Dube once again stood out from the other CSK players. The southpaw scored 45 runs off 24 balls and was the lone basis for the visitors’ acceptable total against SRH.
When Dube went to CSK in 2022, he reinvented himself. His batting changed a lot. He is one of the hardest hitters in IPL. Since 2022, he has smashed 61 IPL sixes. Dube has now hit more sixes than KKR’s Andre Russell. Russell has hit 60 sixes in the last two IPL years.
Aside from that, Dube, who smashed two fours and four maximums on Friday, has already scored 100 boundaries for CSK. He has already hit 43 fours and 61 powerful sixes for the five-time champs.
3. Abhishek Sharma scores the most runs in a 2nd over in IPL history
Abhishek Sharma has been on fire in IPL 2024 so far. He has scored 161 runs, averaging 40.25. But, his amazing strike rate of 217.57 tops all batters facing 50 or more balls. The left-handed Sharma was ruthless against CSK, smashing 37 runs off just 12 deliveries. Incredibly, 26 of those runs came in one over, the second of the innings.
It was Mukesh Choudhary on the receiving end. The left-arm pacer was punished for 27 runs in that over, with Abhishek scoring 26 of them himself. Sharma’s blistering hitting showcased his red-hot form, leaving the bowling attack reeling.
With this, the SRH opener became the batsman to score the most runs in the second over of an IPL innings in the league’s 16-year history. The previous record was 24 runs, shared by Sunil Narine and Chris Gayle (twice).
