Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) kept winning as they defeated Gujarat Titans (GT) in IPL 2024 Match 21 at Ekana Cricket Stadium on April 7.

Batting first, LSG overcame a shaky start, scoring 163 runs. Quinton de Kock and Devdutt Padikkal fell cheaply. However, Marcus Stoinis (58) and KL Rahul (33) steadied the innings with a crucial third-wicket partnership. Nicholas Pooran’s quickfire cameo boosted the score.

GT’s chase lacked momentum from the get-go. Although openers Shubman Gill (19) and Sai Sudharsan (31) provided a decent start, wickets fell frequently. After being 54 for no loss, the visitors lost all 10 wickets for a mere 130 runs.

Yash Thakur’s impressive 5/30 spearheaded LSG’s clinical bowling attack, ably supported by Krunal Pandya’s economical spin (3/11), which proved too much for GT’s batters to handle.

On that point, here are three milestones hit during the LSG vs. GT match.

At one stage, it appeared that Gujarat would easily surpass the goal of 164 in the second innings. They were 54 for no loss, and Shubman Gill and Sai Sudharsan took control of the situation. However, the 2022 IPL champs’ small batting lineup struggled against LSG’s superb bowling.

The Titans managed only 130 in 18.5 overs, with Sai top-scoring with a 23-ball 31. This is GT’s second-lowest score and the lowest away from home in IPL history. Their lowest overall score was 125/5 against the Delhi Capitals in Ahmedabad previous season.

In his four overs against GT, Pandya conceded only 11 runs and took three wickets. He was pretty impressive with his controlled line and length.

Krunal Pandya has emerged as the most economical bowler in IPL 2024. In four matches, the LSG spinner has claimed three wickets at an impressive economy rate of 5.50. Harpreet Brar from Punjab Kings secures second place, with four wickets at an economy rate of 5.69.

Yash Thakur stole the show, obliterating Gujarat with a remarkable 5/30, his best T20 figures ever. The pace sensation demolished Shubman Gill, Vijay Shankar, Rahul Tewatia, Rashid Khan, and Noor Ahmad. Simply unstoppable.

At 25 years old, Thakur now holds IPL 2024’s standout bowling analysis until now. He’s the lone wolf bagging a five-wicket haul this season, a feat achieved.

Moreover, Yash Thakur joins elite company as LSG’s second bowler ever to snare five wickets in an IPL encounter after Mark Wood’s 5/13 heroics versus DC last year.
