In the 2023 World Cup, India and Bangladesh couldn’t have had more unlike starts. The hosts have won all three of their games, while the Bangla Tigers, who defeated Afghanistan in the first game of the season, have dropped two straight games.
The Indian team’s dressing room recordings appear to show that the victories have improved its off-the-field chemistry. On the other side, Bangladesh has continued its history of scandal from before the competition.
Shakib Al Hasan’s captaincy has been the subject of several inquiries, and Litton Das most recently received criticism for how he interacted with some Bangladeshi media.
Personal records make more sense for one team than the other in such a situation. Getting good, new records won’t do much for Bangladesh’s spirits but will only help India’s momentum.
To help you enjoy the game a little bit more, we have put up a list of three major ones to watch out for today.
3. Shubman Gill eyes record for fastest 2,000 ODI runs, needs 67 more
Dengue sickness forced Indian opener Shubman Gill to miss the first two games of the 2023 World Cup, but he displayed some accurate shot in his 11-ball 16 against Pakistan on Saturday. With those 26 innings, he has played in 1,933 ODIs.
He is now 67 runs short of reaching the 2,000-run threshold in ODIs. He would surpass South African superstar Hashim Amla’s record of 40 innings to attain that milestone if he does it today in his 37th innings.
Shikhar Dhawan Indian batter, who played in Gill’s opening position, currently holds the record for India, accomplishing the milestone in 48 innings.
2. Mustafizur Rahman is close to a nice World Cup record
During World Cups, Bangladeshi left-arm seamer Mustafizur Rahman completely transforms into a new bowler. He had been battling ailments and inconsistent form for the previous two years until beginning to peak right before the 2023 competition.
He has taken two wickets thus far in three games, but he appears to be in good rhythm. After just 11 innings, he now has 22 wickets overall throughout all World Cups, putting him within striking reach of the 25-wicket milestone.
He will just be the second Bangladeshi to accomplish so after Shakib if he gets there today. Also the quickest will be the pacer. Shakib played in 23 innings and only reached 25 wickets at the 2019 World Cup, which was his fourth World Cup overall.
Rahman can achieve the 25-wicket plateau in just his second World Cup after a stellar 20 wickets at an average of 24.20 in his debut World Cup in 2019.

1. Virat Kohli could be the fastest to 26,000 international runs
Indian great batter Virat Kohli is just 77 runs away from joining the exclusive club of batters who have scored 26,000 runs in international cricket. This achievement has previously been reached by only three players: Sachin Tendulkar, Kumar Sangakkara, and Ricky Ponting.
He would be there the quickest if he did so today, in his 567th innings. Tendulkar attained the milestone on his 600th game.
Ponting and Sangakkara’s innings required to get 26,000 runs are not easily available, however all three of them need more than 566 innings to reach even 25,000 runs.
Ponting and Sangakkara took 588 and 608 innings, respectively, whilst Tendulkar played 577 innings and scored 25,000 runs.
