Virat Kohli’s 49th ODI century and Ravindra Jadeja’s five-wicket haul helped India run riot at Eden Gardens, defeating South Africa by 243 runs in the duel of the top two in the points standings. Earlier in the day, Kohli hit a 49th ODI century and shared a match-winning 134-run partnership with Shreyas Iyer to help India set a daunting total of 326 for five.

South Africa got off to a rough start, with Mohammed Siraj dismissing Quinton de Kock for 5 runs, putting them at 6/1. Temba Bavuma and Rassie van der Dussen played more cautiously as a result, and the needed run rate increased.

In the ninth over, Ravindra Jadeja joined the assault and knocked out skipper Bavuma for 11, reducing South Africa to 22/2 in 8.3 overs. With South Africa struggling at 35/3, Mohammed Shami sent back Aiden Markram for 9, caught by KL Rahul. Jadeja then dismissed Heinrich Klaasen for one run, leaving South Africa in a bind at 40/4. They never got going and were finally run out for 83 runs.

In 2007, Virender Sehwag’s century helped India set a World Cup record against Bermuda. Back in the day, the winning margin of 257 runs set a new one-day record. India amassed a mammoth 413 for five, and Bermuda was removed for 156 in their Group B match.

Yuvraj Singh, who hit an unbeaten 83 off 46 deliveries, and Sachin Tendulkar, who hit 57 off 29 balls, led the charge against Bermuda’s inexperienced bowling attack. They put up an amazing 122 runs in 63 balls for the fifth wicket.

Defending this total, Ajit Agarkar and Anil Kumble each took three wickets to dismiss Bermuda for 156.

At the Wankhede Stadium on November 2, India’s powerful pace trio of Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Siraj, and Mohammed Shami performed a fantastic performance with the new ball, wreaking havoc on Sri Lanka.

Sri Lanka’s batting performance resembled their performance in the Asia Cup final in September, when they were bowled for 50 runs. On this time, they only added a few more runs, finishing with a dismal 55 and suffering a humiliating defeat by a score of 302 runs. India’s eighth consecutive World Cup victory sealed their berth in the semifinals.
