On Friday, January 5, the International Cricket Council (ICC) announced the schedule for the 2024 T20 World Cup. Reigning champions, India, are in Group A. They’ll square off against Pakistan, Ireland, Canada, and the host country, the United States of America.
The Men in Blue’s campaign will first off in New York against Ireland, and the same stadium will host the high-stakes matchup with archrival Pakistan. Prior to playing Canada in their last group match in Florida, India will play the USA in New York.
The Nassau County International Cricket Stadium in Long Island is set to host a big match between India and Pakistan. It’s marked for June 9. Interestingly, it’s still under construction. Here are some fresh pictures of the venue surfacing on X (previously Twitter):
For the game, a turnkey, cutting-edge modular stadium is reportedly being constructed.
There’s a T20 World Cup on the horizon, and it boasts 20 teams! It will kick off on June 1 and wrap up on June 29.
Initial 16 matches will unfold in three US cities; Lauderhill, Dallas, and New York. Then, the tournament will head to the West Indies for the rest of the 41 matches.
And the final stages? They’ll happen in the Caribbean. Semifinals are set for June 26 and June 27 in Guyana and Trinidad. The championship game? It’s taking place in Barbados on June 29.
India’s prospects in the 2024 T20 World Cup
As per ICC, the tournament has four clusters with five teams each. The best two from each cluster move to the Super Eight round. This phase comes before the intense knockout semi-finals and final.
The 2022 T20 World Cup saw India making it to the semifinals but lost to England, the eventual champions. They were the runners-up at the ODI edition last year and are ready to give their utmost in the future.
