Aakash Chopra jokingly suggested that if the Australian batters keep on persistently using the sweep shot, they will have a complete loss in the present Border-Gavaskar Trophy.
Cummins and company were dismissed for 113 runs in their second innings on the third day of the second Test against India in Delhi on Sunday, February 19th. India then managed to reach the 115-run fourth-innings goal with six wickets still intact, giving them a 2-0 lead in the four-match series.
In a video posted on his YouTube channel, Aakash Chopra gave his opinion on the game and suggested a bleak future for the visiting team, stating:
“Sweep, then sweep, and then again sweep. If you play so many sweeps, there will be a clean sweep, not for you but for your opposition team, which is Team India. So Australia – I feel the situation has changed from bad to worse.”
Chopra pointed out how Australia’s counter-attacking strategy on Saturday looked promising, but they were quickly overcome the next day. He remarked that yesterday it looked like the Australians were going to make a comeback, but that wasn’t the case. They collapsed quickly, one after the other. Additionally, it was thought that the match would last until the fourth day, but it was done by Sunday.
Chopra noted how Australia appeared to be in a good position on Saturday, with a lead of 62 runs and nine wickets remaining. However, the following day they dramatically lost all eight of their wickets for a mere 28 runs, leaving the advantage to the opponents.
