Hardik Pandya claimed another key wicket for India during the T20 World Cup campaign, this time dismissing USA’s stand-in skipper Aaron Jones in New York on Wednesday, June 12. Jones departed for 11 runs off 22 deliveries.
The USA was rocked early on by a double strike from Arshdeep Singh, and after a time of stabilization, Jones chose to assault the Indian team. He hit a hook shot off Mohammed Siraj and sent it past the fine-leg boundary.
However, he attempted the identical shot against Hardik Pandya and was unable to react to the sharp bounce. Aaron Jones could only get a top edge, and Siraj made a routine catch at fine leg.
Here’s the video of the dismissal:
Hardik’s key contribution to India’s T20 World Cup team is his ability to take crucial wickets. Jones could have done some damage and was an important hitter in helping the USA reach a competitive total.
Arshdeep Singh, Hardik Pandya give India the ascendency
Arshdeep Singh became the first Indian bowler to take a wicket on the opening delivery of a T20 World Cup encounter, putting India ahead right away. He trapped Shayan Jahangir in front, and Hardik Pandya caught Andries Gous at mid-off to give his team a double strike.
Aaron Jones and Steven Taylor then banded together to withstand the pressure applied by Arshdeep, Mohammed Siraj, and Jasprit Bumrah. With only 18 runs scored in the powerplay, Jones attempted to boost the ante, giving Hardik his first wicket of the day.
Taylor seemed set to get going after hitting a pair of sixes, but Axar Patel cleaned him up. The USA are 59/4 after 12 overs.
