Hardik Pandya may be available for India’s 2023 World Cup encounter against England on October 29 in Lucknow. According to a source, the ankle ailment that forced the all-rounder to miss Sunday’s match against New Zealand in Dharamshala was “just a sprain” and “nothing serious.”
In his follow-through against Bangladesh, Hardik Pandya injured his left ankle while attempting to stop a ball. During the game, he was rushed for scans and did not continue. Later, he was transferred to Bangalore’s National Cricket Academy to be examined by a specialized doctor from London, increasing concerns of a long-term ailment.
Hardik Pandya is an important member of India’s first 11. He’s regarded as a lower-order finisher with Ravindra Jadeja, and he can also bowl 10 overs. His presence provides a more balanced appearance for India and allows them to select a sixth bowling option.
After their match in Dharamshala, the team will have a two-day break before heading to Lucknow on October 25. This is the longest break they’ve had between matches so far, lasting for one week.
India remains the sole undefeated team in the tournament after a convincing four-wicket victory over New Zealand on Sunday.
Hardik Pandya’s absence not felt as India beat New Zealand
It’s a tribute to the hosts’ abilities, as well as some luck, that they didn’t miss Hardik Pandya too much against New Zealand.
India came in with only five bowling options and brought in a specialist pacer in Mohammed Shami, who took five wickets. There were times when they felt the need for a sixth bowling option, but others pitched in to help offset the impact.
Suryakumar Yadav (who stepped in to fill the finisher’s position) was run out while batting, but Virat Kohli led the pursuit admirably.
