On Friday (March 15), Harbhajan Singh roasted a Pakistani user on X (previously Twitter) over an Indian Premier League (IPL) remark on the microblogging site.
As images showcased Pakistan’s cricketing talents – Babar Azam, Shaheen Afridi, Mohammad Rizwan – donning jerseys of RCB, MI, CSK, respectively, a social media post evoked reaction. Alongside were Indian luminaries Virat Kohli, Jasprit Bumrah and MS Dhoni, representing their franchises.
The visual juxtaposed modern-day greats from both nations, clad in colors of rival IPL teams. A striking display, igniting discourse among fans across borders.
The user shared the post on X, writing:
Reacting to the post, Harbhajan replied:
Pakistani players were barred from participating in the IPL following the inaugural season in 2008 due to geopolitical tensions between the two neighboring countries.
Pakistan’s Cricket Board (PCB) launched its very own T20 league back in 2016. The tournament is called Pakistan Super League. Right now, the knockout matches of the ongoing T20 competition are taking place.
It’s worth noting that Babar Azam’s Peshawar Zalmi fell to Mohammad Rizwan’s Multan Sultans in PSL 2024 Qualifier 1 in Karachi on Friday, March 15th. Multan’s victory secures their participation in the final, but Zalmi will play the second eliminator because they placed in the top two in the points table.
MS Dhoni’s CSK will face Virat Kohli’s RCB in the IPL 2024 opening on March 22 at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. Jasprit Bumrah will make his MI debut against the Gujarat Titans on March 24 at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.
