Gautam Gambhir was reportedly part of an engaging interview process with the BCCIs Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC) for the coveted role of Team Indias head coach in vibrant Mumbai on Tuesday June 18. The former dynamic opening batter is evidently a frontrunner to inherit the coaching responsibilities from the esteemed Rahul Dravid.
According to a report from ESPNcricinfo Gambhir engaged in discussions with the CAC panel which includes former cricketers Ashok Malhotra Jatin Paranjape and Sulakshana Naik. The tenure of Indias current head coach Rahul Dravid is poised to conclude upon the culmination of the ongoing 2024 T20 World Cup.
The BCCIs call for applications to fill the head coach position highlighted on its official website sparked a flurry of responses. Surprisingly the deadline for applications was fastapproaching on May 27 2024.
Gambhir proudly highlights his coaching roles with Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) and Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in the Indian Premier League (IPL) of 2024. He emerged as a pivotal element in KKRs strategic core during their successful titlewinning campaign earlier this year.
Indias freshly minted head coach will steer the national team ship until the curtain falls on 2027 aligning with the impending ICC ODI World Cup edition. Dravid has unequivocally declared his intention to forego reapplication whereas VVS Laxman the helm of the National Cricket Academy (NCA) remains unenthused about seizing the opportunity.
“I would love to coach the Indian team” – Gautam Gambhir
Gautam Gambhir told students at Medeor Hospital in Abu Dhabi earlier this year that he was eager to be the Indian team’s head coach.
He remarked that he would welcome the opportunity to work with the national squad since it would be an honor for him to serve his country. Gautam Gambhir said:
Gautam Gambhir was the leading run-scorer for Team India in both the 2007 T20 World Cup and 2011 ODI World Cup finals.
