On Thursday, March 28, Rajasthan Royals (RR) pacer Avesh Khan bowled a clean spell at the finish in the Indian Premier League (IPL 2024) against Delhi Capitals (DC) in Jaipur.

Avesh’s last two overs cost just 13 runs at Sawai Mansingh Indoor Stadium. He showed he can bowl well at the end. The right-arm seamer bowled the last over. He had to defend 17 runs against Tristan Stubbs and Axar Patel. He did very well. The 27-year-old gave only four runs in the final six balls. This helped his team win by 12 runs.

Avesh Khan was well praised on social media for delivering precise yorkers in the last over. Here are some of the leading reactions:

Avesh Khan conceded just 29 runs in his whole four-over quota while also taking the key wicket of the well-set David Warner. Rajasthan successfully defended a 186-run target to win their second match of the season.

It’s worth noting that Avesh played for the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) last year before being moved to Rajasthan in exchange for left-handed batter Devdutt Padikkal.

After the match, Avesh Khan stated that he wanted to bowl wide yorkers due to the longer boundary on the offside and believed he could execute them under duress.

He also stated that rubbing shoulders with Trent Boult, Nandre Burger, and Sandeep Sharma had really benefited him. Avesh stated in a post-match interview:

“My plan was clear, one side was longer and I wanted to bowl wide yorkers. I gave myself 5 seconds every ball to think and then execute the plan. If the batters play a good shot, it’s good for him, but I always back my yorkers.

“We have Boult, Burger and Sandy, I’ve learnt a lot from them. The team management and Kumar Sangakkara have supported us a lot and have made us not worry too much about the fear of failure. I always want to improve, I want to invent new types of deliveries in T20s. I rest and relax well, work hard in the nets and that has allowed me improve my skills.”
