Shreyas Iyer again failed to produce for India on the first day of the second Test against England in Vizag on Friday, February 2. The right-handed batsman got off to a good start, hitting 27 runs off 59 balls, but failed to consolidate, being caught behind by wicketkeeper Ben Foakes off the left-arm spinner Tom Hartley.
Shreyas Iyer was dismissed in the 51st over of India’s innings. Hartley delivered a short ball outside off, and Iyer backed out to cut the ball, which stayed low, took an under-edge, and eventually went to the keeper. Foakes remained low to finish the catch.
In the first Test against England in Hyderabad, Shreyas Iyer scored 35 and 13 runs as India lost by 28 runs. The middle-order hitter is regarded as a decent spinner, although he was also bowled by Rehan Ahmed and Jack Leach in the most recent Test.
The Mumbai player’s scoring streak in Test matches is suffering. His last 11 turns resulted in no half-centuries. In the recent two-Test South Africa series, he only racked up 41 runs.

Shreyas Iyer, Shubman Gill, and Rohit Sharma continued to struggle in the second Test against England. The trio received starts but failed to score much.
Apart from Shreyas Iyer, James Anderson and debutant Shoaib Bashir dismissed Gill (34 off 46) and Rohit (14 off 41), respectively. The pair had scored 23 & 0 and 24 & 39 in the first Test, respectively. They were also awful in South Africa.
Yashasvi Jaiswal, on the other hand, has had a promising second Test century.
At the time of writing, the hosts were 225/3 at tea on Day 1, with Jaiswal (125 off 185) and debutant Rajat Patidar (25 off 47) at the wicket.
