Kane Williamson, a veteran New Zealand batter, takes the field today for Gujarat Titans (GT). It’s his maiden appearance this IPL 2024 season, facing off against Punjab Kings (PBKS).
Initially excluded from the starting lineup for three games, he eventually joined the XI versus PBKS at Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on April 4th. Replacing David Miller, he earned a spot.
Williamson’s stint with GT last year was brief, with just a solitary appearance. During the inaugural match against CSK, he sustained a knee injury while fielding, ruling him out for the remainder of the season.

While Kane Williamson suffered an injury in his first game last year, he underperformed in 2022. For Sunrisers Hyderabad, the seasoned veteran scored just 216 runs from 13 games at an average of 19.64 and a strike rate of 93.51 percent. He was released before the IPL 2023 auction, where he was signed by Gujarat for ₹2 crore.

GT will be without its star left-handed hitter, David Miller, for their game against PBKS. Skipper Shubman Gill said that the southpaw was not eligible for selection owing to a niggle.
