Faf du Plessis, the skipper of the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), was run out for 18 on Tuesday, April 2, during a match against the Lucknow Super Giants. The great hitter attempted to steal a fast single, but it proved to be a tremendous error of judgment.
Faf du Plessis began steadily, scoring 19 runs from his initial 12 deliveries faced. Yet, Mayank Yadav’s pace troubled him as he sought to work it towards the leg side. Caught on the back foot, Faf du Plessis, nevertheless, called for a quick single despite being rushed.
Devdutt Padikkal quickly caught the ball at short midwicket and delivered a straight blow to the non-striker. Faf du Plessis likely understood halfway through the run that it was a bad decision and was comfortably run out. Having just picked Virat Kohli’s wicket, the run-out was the cherry on top for LSG.
Here’s a video:
Faf du Plessis has scored just 65 runs in four IPL 2024 matches, with a terrible average of 16.25. RCB needed their captain to set a good example after getting off to a good start, since the pursuit was always going to be hard.
Mayank Yadav puts RCB into deeper trouble
Mayank Yadav, the LSG speedster, had another fantastic day with the ball on Tuesday. He started his dominance against RCB by bringing back Glenn Maxwell in the same over that Du Plessis was run out.
Maxwell attempted to pull a delivery over short midwicket, but was outpaced by Nicholas Pooran, who took a straightforward catch inside the ring on the leg side. Here is a video of Maxwell’s dismissal.
Mayank also did an excellent job cleaning Cameron Green. He then ruined Rajat Patidar’s promising innings with another example of defeating the hitter for pace. His stats of 3/14 have put LSG in a strong position to win the game.
