Bengaluru (RCB) captain Faf du Plessis, exhibited the coin to the camera, immediately after it dropped, during the 2024 Indian Premier league (IPL) game with Gujarat Titans (GT). The procedure took place on Saturday, April 4th, at M. Chinnaswamy Stadium.

The outcome of tosses in the IPL has sparked criticism, beginning with RCB’s away match against the Mumbai Indians (MI). Match referee Javagal Srinath appeared to flip the coin after taking it up off the ground, allowing MI to bowl first and secure an easy victory.

After the video of the disputed coin toss went viral on social media, and Faf du Plessis imitated the event to SRH captain Pat Cummins in the following match, various measures were taken to guarantee no foul play occurred.

Soon after, the coins were marked with bold ‘H’ and ‘T’ to indicate their sides, and the cameraman was instructed to zoom in on the coin as soon as it dropped on the ground.

On this instance, Faf du Plessis picked up the coin and showed it to the camera as the photographer shifted his gaze to the ground.

After winning the toss, Faf du Plessis chose to bowl first in an attempt to save their campaign.

“We will chase. It was a pretty good wicket against SRH. There has been rain around as well. We were a bit 50/50 on the decision. We were playing catch up cricket the whole time, so last couple of games have been good. I feel like from a batting perspective we have found our mojo a bit. We are playing the same team.”

The decision to broadcast the outcome of the coin toss to the cameras worked well, and the procedure has run smoothly from its beginning midway through the tournament. However, during the latest match between the Mumbai Indians (MI) and the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) at Wankhede Stadium, the process was not observed.

Hardik Pandya, the home captain, flipped the coin, and away captain Shreyas Iyer made the call. However, match referee Pankaj Dharmani grabbed the coin off the ground before the cameraman could show it to the audience for explanation.
