Australian opener David Warner has remarked that he would not be shocked to see Team India’s premier batter Virat Kohli play in the ODI World Cup in 2031.
David Warner reacted to a fan who expressed optimism that Kohli will play till the 2031 edition of the showcase event. The swashbuckling hitter stated that the former India skipper is in great shape and could easily play for another eight years.
Warner wrote on X (previously Twitter) on Kohli’s prospects of playing in the 2031 World Cup:
“No reason why he can’t, he is very fit and loves the game so much.”
During the just finished 2023 World Cup in India, Virat Kohli delivered outstanding performances. With 765 runs from 11 games at an average of 95.62, the seasoned player became the first player to ever surpass 700 runs in a single edition.
He also topped Sachin Tendulkar’s most ODI centuries record. He did this by achieving his 50th ton. It was during the important semi-final game versus New Zealand. Kohli was named Tournament’s Best Player due to his impressive run.

He hinted earlier this year that the home series against Pakistan would be his final Test appearance, citing his intention to retire from the format in front of his home fans in Sydney in January 2024.
Australia and Pakistan’s first Test match is slated to begin on December 14 in Perth.
