During Australia’s match against the Netherlands in Delhi on Wednesday, David Warner tied Indian icon Sachin Tendulkar for the second most World Cup hundreds with six.
Following a slow start to the competition, David Warner came into his own in Australia’s previous match against Pakistan, scoring 124 off 123 balls. Following that, the 36-year-old hit his second consecutive century against a feeble Netherlands attack, reaching three figures in only 91 deliveries.
Tendulkar participated in six World Cups throughout his great career, but David Warner is only appearing in his third. The southpaw also broke a tie with former skipper Ricky Ponting (5) for Australia’s most World Cup centurion.
Only Indian captain Rohit Sharma has more World Cup hundreds than David Warner, who has seven.
Apart from playing a vital role in Australia winning the 2015 World Cup, David Warner boasts a sensational record in the showpiece event. He has scored 1,324 runs at an average of 63.04 and a strike rate of over 100 in 23 World Cup games.
It’s also worth noting that half of David Warner’s six World Cup hundreds have been 150+, with the 178 against Afghanistan in 2015 being the highest in Perth.
