David Warner, the Delhi Capitals’ (DC) opening batsman, was bowled in an awful manner during the 2024 Indian Premier League (IPL) match against the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) on Friday, April 12 at the Ekana Cricket Stadium.
Tasked with chasing 168, Prithvi Shaw got DC off to a good start, while David Warner struggled. The left-handed batsman injured his hand while attempting a lap shot off Naveen-ul-Haq’s bowling. The physios had arrived before of the fourth over to secure the left hand.
David Warner was in a lot of agony when trying a stroke off Yash Thakur’s opening ball. He attempted his famous lap shot again by going to the offside, but was limited by the ball’s width. The odd touch with the ball resulted in it looping up and striking the stump just as Warner attempted to fend it away.

David Warner has had a sluggish IPL 2024 campaign so far
The veteran opening hitter failed to reach double digits for the first time this season, but his other performances have been poor. He scored 29 runs in DC’s season opener against PBKS and added 101 runs over the next two innings.
However, in his previous three outings, Warner has only scored 36 runs. His form puts pressure on the rest of the batting order, and DC is already struggling.
DC were reduced to 24-1 in the fourth over after Warner’s dismissal. The Delhi franchise’s run-chase quest was dealt another crushing setback. Prithvi Shaw dug a large hole against Ravi Bishnoi, but Nicholas Pooran performed admirably.
DC rookie Jake Fraser-McGurk’s blazing start has been thwarted by spin, and skipper Rishabh Pant has also entered the fray. As of this writing, DC is 100-2 after 12 overs.
