Chennai Super Kings, the leading Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise, made a big move to enhance their bowling attack by getting the services of New Zealand’s pacer Kyle Jamieson for INR 1 crore during the IPL 2023 Auction.
Jamieson will not play in the upcoming IPL season due to a recurring back injury, which has kept him out of action since June 2022. In the meantime, the Super Kings have signed South African seamer Sisanda Magala as a replacement for the injured Jamieson.
The 32-year-old Magala was unsold at the auction and has never previously featured in the IPL. He will join the Chennai-based franchise at his base price of INR 50 lakh.
After hitting several shots for an unbeaten five-ball 18, Magala helped South Africa to get back in the game with the ball. He needed to defend 17 off two overs and found himself on a hat-trick as he executed the bouncer to perfection.
He finished with returns of 3/21 off his two overs in a match curtailed to 11 overs per side. While West Indies eventually prevailed in their chase of 132, fans of CSK were stoked at the prospect of the all-rounder replicating his heroics in another yellow jersey very soon.
After his astonishing performance in the SA v WI, the CSK fans all praise him.
