Ben Stokes, the all-around star for England, was released by Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in advance of the Indian Premier League (IPL2024) auction.
On Sunday, November 26, the news was made. Ben Stokes has already said that he will skip the upcoming season in order to manage his workload and fitness, thus his decision to not be retained is not shocking.
In response to CSK releasing Stokes, a number of supporters reacted on social media. Top responses include the following:
The team from Chennai enlisted Ben Stokes at a staggering ₹16.25 crore in the 2023 IPL auction. Sadly, a knee injury limited him to only two games. The veteran player managed a mere 15 runs in this season.
Stokes was most last seen competing in the just ended 2023 World Cup. He overturned his ODI retirement to compete in the championship match. The southpaw scored 304 runs in six innings, averaging 50.66. He is scheduled to have knee surgery shortly.

CSK, the defending champions, released a total of eight players ahead of the next mini-auction. Ambati Rayudu, the veteran hitter, was also on the list, despite having declared his retirement from Indian cricket after the 2023 IPL.
Apart from Ben Stokes and Ambati Rayudu, the five-time winners also released Dwaine Pretorius, Kyle Jamieson, Sisanda Magala, Akash Singh, Bhagath Varma, and Subhransu Senapati.
Chennai will enter the auction with a purse of 32.1 crore. CSK captain MS Dhoni is expected to play in the cash-rich league’s 2024 edition, much to the joy of supporters.
