Mumbai Indians (MI) pacer Jasprit Bumrah cleaned up Prithvi Shaw with a classic yorker in the current IPL 2024 match against the Delhi Capitals at Wankhede Stadium. The breakthrough also came at a critical point for the five-time winners, shattering a good partnership between Prithvi Shaw and Abhisek Porel, the former exiting for 66.
The dismissal came in the 12th over of the innings, when Hardik Pandya brought back the right-arm speedster for his second. With Prithvi Shaw appearing practically immovable, Bumrah unleashed his blistering yorker, which tailed in unbelievably late to beat the right-hander’s defense and strike the stumps. It was also Bumrah’s first wicket of the contest.

The Delhi Capitals chose to field first, their captain Rishabh Pant winning the toss. Mumbai Indians openers Rohit Sharma and Ishan Kishan quickly piled on runs, their blazing start proving troublesome. Though Rohit missed a deserved half-century, his knock of 49 anchored the innings. Supporting acts from Ishan and Hardik Pandya proved vital as well.
However, Anrich Nortje’s 20th over cost the Capitals the match, as he allowed 32 runs, including four sixes and two boundaries. While Romario Shepherd stayed undefeated at 39 off 10 balls, Tim David hit 45 off 21 deliveries to help his team reach a daunting 234/5 in 20 overs.
Prithvi Shaw and Abhisek Porel Forge 88-Run Stand After Warner’s Quick Dismissal in MI vs DC IPL 2024
The Capitals were already under siege as they chased a daunting 235 runs. However, the tourists lost David Warner in the fourth over of the innings against Romario Shepherd’s bowling. Nonetheless, Porel and Shaw have performed admirably ever since, scoring boundaries at will and adding 88 in the process.
Mumbai, Delhi both endured losses before. Mumbai lost to Rajasthan Royals, Delhi to Kolkata Knight Riders. If five-time champions Mumbai win, it will be their first IPL 2024 victory.
