The Kolkata Police have issued a notice to the Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) for illegally selling tickets to the India vs. South Africa 2023 World Cup match, which will be contested at Eden Gardens on Sunday, November 5.
The officers acted after a cricket fan filed a complaint at Kolkata’s Maidan Police Station alleging collaboration between online platform Bookmyshow and CAB and BCCI officials.
From the complaint, it seems that some BCCI and CAB officials, along with Bookmyshow, intentionally held back tickets meant for regular folks. Then, they gave those tickets to black-market sellers for their own profit.
Media outlets reported a case filed at the Maidan Police Station because of this complaint. An investigation is currently happening. The police sent a notice to CAB, asking for a qualified official to help with the investigation. They’re to appear at the station on Thursday, November 2.
A notice was also filed on Bookmyshow, who has been asked to participate in the inquiry.
Kolkata Police Arrests Man For Selling black marketing of World Cup Tickets
The charge against CAB and Bookmyshow follows the arrest of a guy by the Kolkata Police for selling 2,500 ICC World Cup India versus South Africa match tickets at 11,000 apiece.
According to a tweet on X (previously Twitter) by news agency ANI, a guy called Ankit Agarwal was detained for selling ICC Cricket World Cup India versus South Africa match tickets.
An anonymous individual was detained before to the event in Kolkata for selling bogus tickets at exorbitant costs for the India vs. England 2023 World Cup match, which was played at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow.
It may be recalled that, despite the fact that tickets were distributed in stages, cricket fans had a horrible time obtaining them online through the Bookmyshow service. Many people grumbled about long lines and were unhappy when they were unable to obtain tickets.
