BCCI new regulations limit family stay: BCCI cracks the whip on Indian cricket team players. The board has imposed tougher, more strict regulations for the senior national men’s team. This evidently came after the dissatisfactory tour of Australia. The guidelines were suggested during the review meeting of the Australia tour.
Rules are being set up to curb the family time for the Indian players by not allowing wives and girlfriends to travel with the players beyond 2 weeks on a tour.
that lasts over one and a half months. In addition, another mandate for the players to travel together in team buses has also been added. Along the same lines, the refusal to pay for the player’s extra luggage is also made by the BCCI, which states that from now on players will be paying for their extra luggage.
The move comes after the Indian team lost the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 1-3 in Australia. Beginning from the retirement of Ravichandran Ashwin, who was projecting himself as the interim captain, Rohit Sharma dropped himself from the side in the final match of the series. Many controversies came to have a negative effect on the team. After the crushing blow in the Test series, media reports coming out of Australia are also said to have caught the distress in the dressing room.
BCCI new regulations limit family stay
The reason these rules seem to fall a bit on the harsher side is to simply get the player’s focus back onto the game, as both Virat Kohli and Jasprit Bumrah traveled with their young families between cities during the Australia tour while the rest of the players traveled together. A report even claimed that the Indian team did not celebrate their historic win in Perth together.
RULES SUGGESTED BY THE BCCI
- If a tournament is a 45-day or longer event, families will only be allowed to stay with players for 14 days.
- If the tour is shorter, the duration may be reduced to 7 days.
- Wives cannot stay with players for the entire tournament.
- Families can only stay for 2 weeks.
- All players will have to travel on the team bus.
- Coach Gautam Gambhir’s personal manager will not be allowed to sit in the VIP box or travel on the team bus. He will have to stay in a different hotel.
- If players’ luggage exceeds 150 kg, BCCI will not cover the extra charges, and players will have to pay them.
Following the Australia series, Rohit Sharma and Gautam Gambhir recently met with the BCCI for a review. The BCCI made the decision to steer clear of any rash decisions about the team’s composition. Given that the Champions Trophy, a significant ODI competition, is still six weeks away, it is acknowledged that any quick response would be detrimental to both the squad and the support personnel.
