Axar Patel of TeÂam India outsmarted Moeen Ali in the semifinal of the T20 World Cup 2024 at Providence Guyana on June 27. Axar Patel had MoeeÂn Ali stumped by a considerable margin and seÂcured his third wicket of the innings.
The dismissal happened in the eighth over of the innings, when Axar Patel came on for his third over. The ball from the 30-year-old clipped Moeen’s thigh pad, sending the southpaw out of his crease. However, Rishabh Pant dislodged the bails before he could return, forcing Moeen to retire for 8 out of 10 deliveries.
The Men in Blue had previously removed Jos Buttler, Phil Salt, and Jonny Bairstow before dismissing Moeen for 171 in 20 overs.
Axar Patel plays brief cameo to lift Team India to a healthy total in Guyana
The southpaw also scored 10 runs off six deliveries, including a one-handed six off Chris Jordan’s bowling in the final over of the game. With showers anticipated in Guyana, England sent India to bat first, delaying the start.
While Virat Kohli was dismissed for another single-figure score, Rohit Sharma took the game on. He top-scored with 57 off 43 deliveries before finishing with 92 off 41 balls against Australia.
Suryakumar Yadav scored 47 off 36 deliveries, while Hardik Pandya and Ravindra Jadeja blasted quickfire 23 and 17, respectively. Chris Jordan finished as the top bowler with numbers of 3-0-37-3.
South Africa has already qualified for the final, defeating Afghanistan by ten wickets at the Brian Lara Cricket Academy in Tarouba. Bridgetown, Barbados, will host the final on June 29. The Proteas have gone unblemished in their first eight games, winning unexpectedly and generally under pressure. South Africa, having never won a T20 World Cup, will try to take the opportunity.
