Sunil Gavaskar, the former Indian cricket player, made fun of the Australian media after their cricket team suffered a massive loss to India in the 1st Test on Saturday at the VCA Stadium in Nagpur. They lost to India by an inning and 132 runs. Talking to India Today TV, Gavaskar claimed their media spooked the Australian team with so much discussion about the Nagpur pitch. Gavaskar also commented on how reports in Australia stated that the pitch would not be suitable for left-handers and then said how Ravindra Jadeja & Axar Patel had a great inning in the middle. Axar Patel made 84 runs, and Ravindra Jadeja scored quick 70 runs, increasing their first innings score to 223 on the morning of the third day. Three sixes & two fours were part of Mohammed Shami’s helpful innings of 37 runs off 47 balls.
There was a lot of discussion in the Australian Media before the match about the pitch in Nagpur, and the Australian media had claimed that the wicket was made to favour the Indian cricket team. According to Gavaskar, this hype in the Australian press made the Australian cricket team underconfident and, thus, poor performance.
Australia got thrashed at the hands of Indian bowlers and is called the “Nagpur nightmare for Australia”, with their home media reeling after witnessing one of the team’s worst batting performances. Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja tore through Pat Cummins’s led Australia team to set up India’s massive victory by innings and 132 runs within three days of the spin-dominated opening Test on Saturday. There are three more matches left in this 4-match Test series between India and Australia, and we are hoping to see a much more improved gameplay from Team Australia in Delhi, Ahmedabad, and Indore.
