The captain failed to shine again as KL Rahul’s start didn’t bear fruit for Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) in IPL 2024’s match 28 versus Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR). Eden Gardens witnessed the April 14 clash where Rahul greeted Andre Russell powerfully, smashing him for six over point. But the skipper’s eagerness proved costly as he perished trying to replicate the assault via pull towards mid-wicket region.

However, he mistimed it and blasted it straight into Ramandeep Singh’s hands at deep midwicket. Andre Russell was pleased, and rightfully so, since he had the final laugh after getting pumped for a six on his first ball.

KL Rahul had hit 39 runs off 27 balls and appeared to be on track to lead his team to victory. But that wasn’t to be.

So far, LSG’s innings has been defined by the unfortunate loss of wickets at the worst possible time. Even in KL Rahul’s situation, it looked like the ideal time to change gears after he and Ayush Badoni had established Lucknow’s innings.

Marcus Stoinis then came out to bat, hitting a couple of boundaries off Andre Russell. However, wicketkeeper Phil Salt’s superb reaction catch forced even the Australian to make the long trek back to the pavilion.

The visitors rely on Nicholas Pooran to do admirably with the bat. The southpaw was removed for a golden duck in his previous game against the Delhi Capitals, so he will be eager to make an impression. LSG may require around 180 board members to confront KKR.
