Sachin Tendulkar, the mentor for Mumbai Indians (MI), reacted comically when his son Arjun Tendulkar claimed his first IPL wicket. He jokingly said, “Finally, a Tendulkar has an IPL wicket!”
Arjun debuted in the match against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) on Sunday, April 16th, but failed to take a wicket. Two days later, he succeeded by dismissing Bhuvneshwar Kumar for two during the game against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in Uppal.
Mumbai Indians pulled off a 14-run victory against Sunrisers Hyderabad, with Kumar being the last to be dismissed. Batting first, MI scored 192/5 and then bowled out SRH in 19.5 overs, limiting them to 178. Reflecting on their success, Tendulkar tweeted:
“A superb all-round performance by Mumbai Indians once again. Cameron Green impressed with both bat & ball. Ishan & Tilak’s batting is as good as it gets! The IPL is getting more interesting every day. Great going, boys!????.”
He further commented on his son getting his maiden IPL wicket:
“And finally, a Tendulkar has an IPL wicket!????.”
Legendary cricketer Sachin Tendulkar played 78 matches in the Indian Premier League, racking up 2,334 runs but not a single wicket. Throughout his IPL career, he bowled 36 deliveries and gave away 58 runs.
“I am happy to bowl anytime the captain asks me to”: Arjun Tendulkar
After claiming his IPL wicket in the game against SunRisers Hyderabad on Tuesday, Arjun expressed that it was a great moment. Expelling his emotions post-match, he stated:
“Obviously, it was great getting my first IPL wicket. I just had to focus on what was in hand, the plan and executing it. Our plan was just to bowl wide and get the long boundary into play, make the batsman hit it to the longer side. I love bowling; I am happy to bowl anytime the captain asks me to and just stick to the team plan and give my best.”
“We talk about cricket, we discuss tactics before the game, and he tells me to back what I practice every game. I just focused on my release, bowling good lengths and lines upfront. If it swings, it’s a bonus; if it doesn’t, so be it.” He further added.
