Ex-South African cricketer AB de Villiers reckons Mumbai Indians (MI) possess IPL 2024’s premier squad on paper, capable of embarking on a triumphant streak securing playoff qualification.

MI endured their fifth defeat when Rajasthan Royals inflicted a resounding nine-wicket drubbing on the visitors in Jaipur. This predicament compels Hardik Pandya’s contingent to likely emerge victorious in each remaining fixture to secure a coveted top-four berth.

In a video posted on his YouTube account, AB de Villiers discussed MI’s troubles and chances of making the playoffs, AB de Villiers said:

“They just don’t seem to be holding onto anything. Everything is going wrong. But they are still in it and probably need to win five out of their last six games. They have done this before and it’s just about gelling together. Possibly on paper the best team in the IPL.”

MI’s next IPL 2024 encounter is against the Delhi Capitals on Saturday, April 27.

Ex-cricketer Manoj Tiwary criticized Mumbai Indians’ captain Hardik Pandya’s choices during their defeat to Royals. He highlighted Hardik bowling with the new ball himself. Despite having bowlers like Jasprit Bumrah and Nuwan Thushara, Hardik conceded 11 runs and helped opposition get off to a good start.

Manoj Tiwary informed Cricbuzz the following about whether MI will qualify for the playoffs:

“I don’t see MI progressing in the points table because of the silly mistakes are being made. If this kind of captaincy continues, MI are not making the playoffs. Previously, players were with Rohit Sharma. Now it feels like that MI players have not bought into Hardik Pandya as the captain of the side.”

Hardik hasn’t performed well as a player thus far, and the game against Delhi might be a genuine test of character for the star all-rounder.
