IND vs BAN 2nd Test: Aakash Chopra Questions Toss Decision of Rohit
The toss decision, though, was questioned by cricket pundit Aakash Chopra, who is also a former player for the home side. According to Chopra, India should have been brave enough to choose the batting as a home side, as the pitch in Kanpur supports batting, despite being tricky in the initial hour.
“I am surprised as the pitch is full of runs, and Rohit decided to bowl first. I know the first hour could be a bit tricky, and the team batting first could lose one or two wickets, but that’s the challenge you have to accept as a home team. The batting is always easy in Kanpur,” Aakash Chopra said on JioCinema.
Former Indian cricketer RP Singh also backed Chopra, saying that batting first in Kanpur ‘is always the best idea’.
“Aakash bhai is right, as you see a lot of runs being scored in Kanpur. I know the weather is not good, but batting first over here is always the best idea,” he said.
But Rohit Sharma, after deciding to bat first, told Ravi Shastri why he chose to bowl first. According to him, the wetness of the pitch and also the greenness of it more than usual, might help the bowlers initially in the match.
“It is not the typical Kanpur pitch, as there is a grass cover over it, and also, there is a softness in the track. I want my bowlers to have a go at their batters,” he told Ravi Shastri.
