Aakash Chopra feels the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) done the Mumbai Indians (MI) a huge favor by obtaining Cameron Green.

The Australian all-rounder joined the Bangalore-based club before of the IPL 2024 auction, bringing MI’s balance to 15.25 crore once the retention procedure was finished. It enabled the five-time winners to sign Hardik Pandya from the Gujarat Titans for 15 crore while still having 17.75 crore in their bank account heading into the auction.

Chopra stated on his YouTube channel that RCB’s acquisition of Green aided MI’s case. He reasoned as follows:

“Green has gone red or you can say RCB have gone Green. They did a huge favor to Mumbai because if this deal had not happened, the Hardik deal too wouldn’t have happened. Things have changed suddenly.”

The former India opener believes that RCB could have gotten Green for a lower sum during the auction. He said:

“It wouldn’t have been a bad idea to stop that (Hardik’s) deal by not doing this (Green’s) deal. I am seeing it from Bangalore’s perspective and not from Mumbai’s. They (MI) would have released him (Green). Would you have got Cameron Green more expensive than 17.5 crores if they had released him?”

Chopra noted that the addition of the big-hitting all-rounder has provided depth and potency to RCB’s batting. However, he acknowledged that it would leave them with only one open space for an overseas bowler, given that Faf du Plessis, Glenn Maxwell, and Green will almost certainly appear in the starting XI.

Aakash Chopra believes Shubman Gill’s nomination as Gujarat Titans captain following the departure of Hardik Pandya is on track. He stated:

“Shubman Gill is the new Gujarat Titans captain. A lot of things have happened to him at 23 years of age, which is fascinating and fantastic. It was almost confirmed that Shubman would become the captain as soon as Hardik left.”

The former cricketer-turned-commentator believes the Titans would have had selection concerns if Kane Williamson had been named captain. He elaborated:

“There was a school of thought about whether Kane Williamson should be made the captain. You have an example of Hyderabad already. Kane is such a good person, he drops himself if he is not doing well.”

Rashid Khan and David Miller are essentially vital for the Gujarat Titans, according to Chopra, and they may also wish to play Noor Ahmad, absorbing three of the four open overseas slots in the playing XI. He went on to say that Gill is a better option, emphasizing that IPL clubs should have an Indian captain.
