Team India seeks to continue their winning streak and seal the Border-Gavaskar Trophy by winning the third Test at Indore. They have previously won both Tests they played at the Holkar Cricket Stadium, defeating New Zealand by 321 runs in 2016 and Bangladesh by innings and 46 runs in 2019. Indian batters have excelled in Indore, and here are the three best Test match innings played by Indian batters at the venue.
Virat Kohli
In 2016, Virat Kohli became the first player to score a Test double-century in Indore against New Zealand. He hit 20 boundaries, ran well between the wickets, and combined with Ajinkya Rahane for a 365-run fourth-wicket partnership. Kohli’s knock helped India declare their innings at 557. Ravichandran Ashwin claimed 13 wickets as 321 runs soundly beat the Kiwis.
Mayank Agarwal
In November 2019, Mayank Agarwal smashed the highest individual score at the Holkar Cricket Stadium in Test cricket by scoring an impressive 243 from 330 balls against Bangladesh. He hit 28 boundaries and eight maximums with a strike rate of over 73.
Agarwal’s commanding knock helped India declare their first innings at 493 for the loss of six wickets in response to Bangladesh’s first innings total of 150. The visitors couldn’t fight in the second innings and were bowled out for 213, resulting in India’s victory by innings and 46 runs. It was no surprise that Agarwal was named Player of the Match.
Ajinkya Rahane
In 2016, Rahane played his highest Test innings at the Holkar Cricket Stadium, scoring 188 runs from 381 balls with 18 boundaries and four sixes against New Zealand. He came to bat with India struggling at 100-3 and shared a vital 365-run partnership with Virat Kohli. Although he fell short of his first double century, his contribution was vital in helping India achieve a massive victory.
