March 31st will mark the beginning of the much-anticipated tournament IPL 2023, and we can expect ground-breaking performances from overseas debutants. Chris Gayle, who made his first IPL appearance with the Kolkata Knight Riders in 2009, certainly left his mark by breaking several records and becoming one of the most valuable players in the tournament. Here is a list of the intriguing new overseas players who can debut in IPL 2023.
5) Matthew Short
Short may be new to the IPL, but he already has an impressive reputation in the Big Bash League. Since 2018, he’s been part of the Adelaide Strikers team and made a real impact in the most recent tournament. He was even named Player of the Tournament for his 458 runs and 11 wickets taken with his off-spin.
4) Sisanda Magala
Sisanda Magala, the South African right-arm fast bowler, made a name for himself with his death overs bowling prowess, but during SA20, he showed the capacity to be dangerous even in the powerplay. He has played in 128 T20 games and has 139 wickets to his name. He went unsold in the IPL 2023 Auction. However, CSK came to his aid and purchased him to replace the injured Kyle Jamieson.
3) Michael Bracewell
Initially going unsold in the IPL 2023 auction, a 32-year-old all-rounder from New Zealand, Bracewell, was later signed by Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) as a replacement for their injured all-rounder Will Jacks. Bracewell has represented New Zealand in 16 T20Is and has scored 113 runs in 11 innings, his highest individual score being 61*.
2) Phil Salt
DC might be in luck this season with the inclusion of Phil Salt, a 26-year-old explosive opener with 4118 runs in 180 T20 matches. His presence could provide a much-needed boost to DC’s powerplay overs and make up for the absence of their regular wicketkeeper, Rishabh Pant. With Salt and David Warner opening the batting, DC could have the perfect start they need to take control of the match.
1) Joe Root
Joe Root is a powerhouse of batting talent in this generation – having accumulated 2083 runs in 88 T20 matches and reaching a peak performance of 92 runs. Looking toward the upcoming IPL 2023 season, cricket fans will be able to experience Root’s brilliance for the first time in the Indian Premier League.
