A batter who wants to score more than 200 runs in a 50-over game must have the right combination of skill, endurance, focus, and timing. Only some can achieve two centuries in an ODI, and Sachin Tendulkar was the first participant in this type of game to reach a double hundred.
During their prime years or early in their careers, a select few cricketers were able to accomplish this accomplishment. Below is a list of the five most recent double-centurion batters in ODI cricket.
Shubman Gill, age 23
Shubman Gill became the ODI cricket’s youngest player to score a double century. At the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad, against New Zealand, Gill hit 208 runs at 23 years and 132 days.
In the City of Nizams, Gill became the first cricketer to record a double century. In addition, he made history by scoring 200 or more in an ODI against the Kiwis.
Ishan Kishan, age 24
Ishan Kishan made history last month by scoring a double hundred in ODIs at 19. His record has now been surpassed, though. At the age of 24 years & 145 days, Kishan scored 210 runs against Bangladesh. The ODI double hundred on foreign soil by a wicket-keeper batter still stands as the global record.
Rohit Sharma, age 26
Rohit Sharma is the only cricketer to score more than one double-century in an ODI. In the 50-over format, the current Indian skipper has recorded three double tons, with the first coming at the age of 26 and 186 days.
2013 saw Sharma record his first double-century against Australia. He scored 209 runs, which helped India win the series finale.
Fakhar Zaman, age 28
2018, Pakistani top-order batsman Fakhar Zaman scored his first double-century against Zimbabwe in an ODI. He was 28 years old and 100 days old in Bulawayo when he pitched a 210-run inning. Zaman accomplished a double century for Pakistan for the first time.
Martin Guptill, age 28
Martin Guptill made history at the Cricket World Cup by becoming the first player to score a double century in a knockout game. The New Zealand hitter pulled off the feat in the fourth Cricket World Cup quarter-final against the West Indies. At 28 years and 171 days, Guptill became the first Kiwi to hit 200 runs in an ODI.
