SRH has been amongst the most consistent teams in the elite T20 competition, with 75 wins and 77 losses in 10 seasons. After releasing Kane Williamson from their squad, they recently appointed Aiden Markram as their skipper. Here’s a look at three understated players from their successful years in the IPL.
#1 Jonny Bairstow
Jonny Bairstow has been one of the top T20 batters in the world over the past five years, scoring 1038 runs in 28 matches for SRH – averaging 42 and 8.5 runs per over. In 2019, he made his IPL debut for the Sunrisers Hyderabad, leading them to the top 4 with 445 runs at an average of 56 and a strike rate of 157. His partnership with Warner that season was exceptionally destructive in the game against RCB at the Rajiv Gandhi Stadium. Over the next two seasons, Bairstow delivered impressive performances every time he got a chance.
#2 Sandeep Sharma
Sandeep Sharma has been one of the foremost Indian pacers in the Indian Premier League, and we especially remember his achievements with the Punjab Kings. However, he is SRH’s fourth-highest wicket-taker of all time after Bhuvneshwar Kumar (130), Rashid Khan (95), and Siddarth Kaul (52). With 41 wickets from 43 matches at an average of 31 and an economy rate of 7.78, Sharma was particularly lethal early in the innings, often troubling even some of the most incredible top-order batters, including Virat Kohli.
#3 Yuvraj Singh
Yuvraj Singh may have had a less successful IPL career, but he achieved his first IPL trophy with SRH. He represented them in 22 games and compiled 488 runs at an average of 27 and a strike rate of 137. His most memorable performance was in the 2016 final. Stepping up to bat at number 4, he smashed 38 off just 23 balls, allowing his teammate Warner to set up a large total. Additionally, he provided numerous other cameos for SRH, making a valuable contribution to the team’s success.
