Many experts predicted that the Sunrisers Hyderabad will make a deep run in the IPL 2023. On paper, it appeared like SRH had all the resources necessary to compete with the other teams.
The Aiden Markram-led team fell short of expectations, winning only four of their 14 games in the IPL 2023. They finished last in the points standings.
Despite their terrible performances, the Hyderabad-based team might take away a few positives from this season. Here are three examples of such advantages:
1) Heinrich Klaasen
Heinrich Klaasen was a rare bright spot in an otherwise disastrous season for SRH. He arrived late for the tournament owing to national obligations, yet he had a huge influence. Klaasen scored 448 runs in 11 innings, an incredible average of 49.78.
Furthermore, his runs came at a devastating strike rate of 177.08, demonstrating how brilliantly he batted in IPL 2023. Klaasen received little help from his teammates but continued to produce throughout the season. Kevin Pietersen dubbed the South African batsman the best spinner in the world after he handled spin exceedingly effectively.
2) Mayank Markande
SRH began the season with English leg-spinner Adil Rashid in their starting lineup. However, due to the four overseas players rule, he was forced to sit out, and the inexperienced Mayank Markande was thrust into the role as the team’s main spinner. Markande did not disappoint, taking 12 wickets in 10 games at an economy rate of 7.89.
On multiple times, skipper Aiden Markram praised the 25-year-old, and he seems to have a bright future with the Orange Army.
3) Bhuvneshwar Kumar
Bhuvneshwar Kumar was dropped from India’s teams in recent months, and many questioned his ability. However, his efforts in IPL 2023 demonstrated that he still has a lot of cricket left in him.
Despite not bowling at his best this season, Bhuvi picked up 16 wickets in 14 games at an economy rate of 8.33. On May 15, he again took five wickets against the Gujarat Titans.
