The level of intensity displayed by the teams in nail-biting contests has had everyone on their toes in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023. With each passing game, the battle is heating up, and right now every team have a chance to make the playoffs.
Many milestones have been attained during the current season of the IPL. On that subject, here are the three players who have 50 IPL fifties, with two of them accomplishing the mark this season.
3 players to score 50 IPL Fifties in IPL
1) Shikhar Dhawan
The Punjab Kings skipper and left-handed opener is the newest member of the elite 50 IPL fifty club. Shikhar Dhawan accomplished the feat on Monday, May 8, 2023, during his team’s defeat against the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR).
Dhawan smashed 57 off 47 balls with nine fours and a six which helped PBKS to reach first-innings total of 179/7. Even though it came in a losing cause, it was Dhawan’s 50th IPL half-century.
Dhawan’s 50 IPL fifties were mostly with the Sunrisers Hyderabad (19) and Delhi Capitals (16). This was his sixth for the Punjab Kings, and he also had a few for the Deccan Chargers (7) and Mumbai Indians (2).
Dhawan was the first player in IPL history to record back-to-back century while playing for the Delhi Capitals in IPL 2020.
2) Virat Kohli
Virat Kohli reached the milestone during his most recent IPL match against the Delhi Capitals on May 6 at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi. Kohli scored 55 runs off 46 deliveries, with only five boundaries coming off his blade.
In his 225th innings, Kohli hit his 50th IPL fifty. In the IPL, he has 55 fifty-plus scores, including five centuries. Kohli reached 7000 runs in the IPL and 1000 runs against the Delhi Capitals during his slow innings in Kotla.
Notably, Virat Kohli has the most fifties in the IPL for a single franchise, despite never playing for a team other than RCB.
3) David Warner
David Warner was the first player in IPL history to reach 50 IPL fifties. On April 28, 2021, Warner, the then-captain of Sunrisers Hyderabad, struck 57 off 55 balls against Chennai Super Kings (CSK) to clinch his 50th IPL fifty.
At the moment, the Australian has the most fifty-plus scores in the IPL, with 59 half-centuries and four centuries. Warner has 40 fifty for SRH and 19 more for the Delhi Capitals.
