The Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) assembled an impressive roster for the 2022 Indian Premier League (IPL), making it to the playoffs before losing in the Eliminator. They managed to get great value from budget picks such as Mohsin Khan and Ravi Bishnoi. Deepak Hooda and Quinton de Kock were two of their team’s biggest stars, proving their worth with their runs. While some players on this squad have managed to justify their contracts, others still need to make the grade. Here are three LSG players who will be on overpriced contracts in IPL 2023.
3) Nicholas Pooran
LSG made a big splash at the IPL 2023 auction when they signed the dynamic and immensely talented Nicholas Pooran for an ₹16 crore. While Pooran has produced one excellent season in the IPL, he hasn’t had the greatest runs in international cricket and other franchise leagues over the past year. It remains to be seen if Gautam Gambhir and Co. can get the best out of this maverick player.
2) Krunal Pandya
Krunal Pandya had a promising start to IPL 2022 with LSG, playing some productive knocks and bowling well. However, his performances dipped as the tournament reached its climax. Since 2018, he has never managed to score more than 250 runs in an IPL season, nor has he been able to maintain a strike rate over 130. Similarly, he has never claimed more than 12 wickets in an edition of the IPL. Given his end product, it is surprising that he currently commands a price of ₹8.25 crore.
1) Marcus Stoinis
LSG has decided to retain Marcus Stoinis for the IPL 2023 season, despite his lackluster performance in IPL 2022. This comes at a hefty price of ₹9.2 crores, and it’s unclear if Stoinis can live up to this investment and make his mark in the league. Whether Stoinis can prove that he’s worth his hefty price tag remains to be seen. Rumors have been floating around that LSG was looking to release Stoinis before the IPL 2023 auction, but they ultimately decided to hold onto him.
