Delhi Capitals have had their moments as a franchise. They have made it to the playoffs on 6 occasions but are yet to register a title to their name. Their best season was in IPL 2020 when they made it to the finals of the coveted competition. However, there have been some successful captains for the franchise.
#1 Shreyas Iyer
Shreyas Iyer debuted in the Indian Premier League for the Delhi franchise in 2015 and played a significant role until his release in 2021. He led the team in 41 matches from 2018 to 2020, winning 23 and losing 18. Under his captaincy, Delhi Capitals qualified for the playoffs in 2019 and made their first-ever final appearance in 2020. Iyer took over as captain in 2018, leading an inexperienced team and showcasing his leadership skills.
#2 Virender Sehwag
Virender Sehwag boasts an impressive IPL record with 2728 runs in 104 innings at an average of 28 and a strike rate of 155. He also holds the record for captaining the most number of matches for Delhi Capitals with 28 wins and 24 losses out of 52 matches. Under his leadership, the team reached the semi-finals in the first two seasons. Unfortunately, they couldn’t make it past the playoffs, losing both qualifiers.
#3 Rishabh Pant
Rishabh has been one of the best players to have played for the Delhi Capitals. He has been an absolute match-winner with the bat. Since making his IPL debut in 2016, he has scored 2838 runs in 97 innings at an average of 35 and a strike rate of 148. He was given the captaincy after Iyer was ruled out but he managed the team so well that he remained captain even after Iyer returned in the later phase.
