MS Dhoni, the legendary Indian skipper who last played an international game in 2019, will captain the Chennai Super Kings in what could be his final hurray. Known for his superb tactical acumen and finishing skills, MS Dhoni has already led CSK to four IPL titles and will hope to make history by claiming a fifth title before he retires.
MSD’s batting role in CSK may not be as prominent as it used to be, but his expertise and outstanding character suggest that he could bring something extra to the table in important moments. As the 16th edition of IPL is coming close, Dhoni has a good chance to break some individual records. Here are the top three records he could break during IPL 2023:
3) MS Dhoni could complete 250 sixes
Mahendra Singh Dhoni’s incredible power and strength are unmatched when it comes to hitting sixes in the IPL. With 229 sixes under his belt, he is fourth overall and second among active batters. If he hits another 21 sixes, he will be the first Indian to cross the 250 mark – the highest being Rohit Sharma, who currently has 240.
2) MS Dhoni could feature in 250 IPL games
MSD is set to make history in IPL 2023 with a chance to be the first-ever player to feature in 250 IPL games. Having already played in 234 games, he is the most experienced cricket star in the tournament’s history, with Dinesh Karthik a close second with 229 appearances. The CSK skipper will hope for his team to qualify for the knockouts this season, allowing him to reach the elusive landmark of 250 games.
1) Could become the first-ever full-time wicketkeeper to enter 5,000 runs club
CSK legend Mahendra Singh Dhoni has scored an impressive 4,978 runs in 206 innings in IPL history so far. With just 22 more runs, he will become the first full-time wicket-keeper to reach the milestone of 5,000 IPL runs. Moreover, if MS Dhoni manages to score 185 runs or more in the upcoming season, he will surpass AB de Villiers’ record of 5,162 runs and become the sixth-highest run-getter in the tournament’s history.
