Over the years, the Indian Premier League has been a great way for young and uncapped Indian cricketers to shine on the international stage. The tournament has allowed such players to get noticed and have a chance to break into the Indian national side. In IPL 2023, we already see impressive performances from promising young players. Let’s look at two of them:
1) Rinku Singh: ‘The find’ of the IPL 2023
Rinku Singh is surely the find of this season’s IPL tournament. He has been part of the tournament since 2018, yet he had not made much of an impact until last year. Last season, the left-hander scored 174 runs at a strike rate of 148.72 in seven games, showing some stellar finishes.
In the current edition, he has scored 98 runs in three innings with a strike rate of 168.79, demonstrating his capability as a finisher. His extraordinary attacking abilities have garnered the attention of the national selectors, seen most recently in his five-sixes-in-five-balls against Yash Dayal to win the game from an impossible position. Singh still has a long road ahead of him, but he is making all the right moves to get noticed and enhance his reputation as a powerful lower-order batsman.
2) Tilak Varma: Dependable batter for the MI
The talented left-hander, Tilak Varma, has become an integral part of the Mumbai Indians team. He made a great start to his IPL career in 2022, scoring 397 runs at an impressive strike rate of 131. He has continued to shine in the present edition of the tournament, with 147 runs in 3 games and an average of 73.50 at a strike rate of 158.06. Varma’s consistency and ability have not gone unnoticed, as skipper Rohit Sharma has placed considerable trust in the young cricketer. It is clear that Varma is heading for a successful future ahead in the game.
